Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine: Article on Timber framed house at Broughton
November 2001 issue

This house was commissioned by clients to build a house which blended into the woodland site, whilst taking advantage of the views across the valley to the Pentland Hills beyond.
Working closely with the clients, a final design was arrived at with all Living accommodation at first floor level. The large, vaulted Living Room incorporates a fully glazed gable wall, which leads to a covered balcony overlooking the valley.
As the clients' were in the timber business, they wanted to incorporate as much timber into the house construction as possible. In view of this, the house construction is a highly insulated timberframe with sawn timber board cladding externally. Natural timbers are also used as interior wall and ceiling linings.

The house was constructed by Fjordhus Ltd  who specialise in the supply of Norwegian timber framed structures.

The house was also short-listed for the Home Building & Renovating House of the Year Awards 2001, and featured in the magazine's January 2002 special awards issue.
